Pfeifer Realty On-going Community Service

Realtors sell real estate… sounds simple… but it's so much more!

Real estate represents being a part of something bigger, a neighborhood, and a community. On Sanibel and Captiva Islands we have a great community that is not just a series of neighborhoods gated and isolated from other neighborhoods, we are all neighbors here on the islands and it shows anytime you attend a community event.

Non-profits are the "warp" in the loom that holds our community "fabric" together. From F.I.S.H. helping fellow neighbors in need to CROW tending to animals in need, SCCF setting aside valuable conservation lands, the Ding Darling Wildlife Society promoting wildlife education and programs, The Sanibel Historical Village preserving our pioneer history, the Sanibel Sea School actively teaching ecology with hands-on study, and the Sanibel Community House providing a place for us to gather, or the Bailey Matthews Shell Museum educating us on the wonders of the mollusk world, to BIG ARTS providing the islands with cultural programs year-round. We are blessed to have these treasures in our own backyard! Our island community is preserved and enhanced daily by countless hours given in service by the great non-profits here.

Our community is OUTSTANDING because of the efforts of everyone involved in these organizations. Pfeifer Realty Group is proud to support them at every turn. Since opening our real estate brokerage in 2008, our goal was to donate $200,000 in community support. We exceeded that goal on 6-8-2021. Pfeifer Realty Group has donated to local non-profits diligently and after topping our 200K goal in June of 2021, we set our giving goal to $300,000 and achieved this goal on July 25th, 2022! And like the "energizer bunny" we just keep on going. Follow along below as we continue to celebrate and support the many organizations that make Southwest Florida so special.

Emmy Award-Winning Film Maker David Carter to Produce Documentary Titled Growing Up on Sanibel Island

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to grow up on Sanibel Island? Soon, a documentary on that very topic will begin production, which will have its premiere at BIG Arts on April 10, 2014.

The film will be produced by long-time Sanibel resident David E. Carter, who has won 7 Emmy Awards. His most recent work, titled “Dear Baseball: I Love You,” was also produced on Sanibel. That film was honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. His earlier documentary for CROW was also nominated for an Emmy Award.

Growing Up on Sanibel will feature multiple generations of people who grew up on Sanibel. The film will feature some long–time Sanibel residents who either grew up here or who moved here in their early adult years, who and who raised families here. An additional focus will be on adults who grew up here and will take a nostalgic look back at their experience growing up here. Finally, current “Sanibel kids” will be featured, with glimpses into their island lives.

Sponsored by Pfeifer Realty Group, the documentary film premiered at BIG ARTS on April 10th, 2014. For more information, event registration, and casting, visit the Sanibel Stories Website.

The Sanibel Stories DVD also correlates to a series of Canvas works of art titled "Sanibel is..." that will be auctioned the night of the DVD premiere at Big Arts on April 10th. All proceeds of the 10 final works of art will benefit the nonprofit organizations on Sanibel that maintain and preserve the island.

Sound silly? Well, it is. To set the world record, shellers gathered at Bowman's Beach donning the official Sanibel Stoop Tee Shirt, and on Pfeifer's cue, they all began searching for shells and doing the stoop. A helicopter flew overtaking several photos to get an official count for the record books. It was a crazy silly sight indeed! Drill Sargent, Pfeifer kept the orders coming as the helicopter circled overhead. The record books know how many people were doing the Sanibel Stoop, but how many shells were found that day?

"My family has learned that Christmas Eve dinner needs to be easy to make and eat on the run as I am not home most of the evening. The best perk is that I can set up 3 chairs upfront for my family to enjoy the service since they don't see much of me on Christmas Eve.

The Christmas Eve service on the beach is held by the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ and is open to all denominations. It is a lesson in carols and enjoyed by all ages. Bring your family and some beach chairs and start an island-style Christmas Tradition.

10-18-2009: Sand Bars to Sanibel Premiere - Starring Mary Ellen Pfeifer: When Deb Gleason, an avid Historian for Sanibel's Historical Museum and fellow Realtor asks what you are doing next Tuesday afternoon, be careful how you answer her. When asked this very question, Mary Ellen Pfeifer didn't realize exactly what she was getting herself into when she did. Her long hair was ideally suited for the part, a film inspired by Sanibel pioneers.

What began as a single afternoon commitment evolved into several days of filming at the Rutledge Home in the Village, the Old Post Office in the Village, to the Sanibel Lighthouse, the causeway islands, the east end beaches, and the famous Bailey Mules that are brought down for the 4th of July parade every year.

The fictional narrative, “Sandbars to Sanibel” stars 49 of Sanibel and Captiva’s local residents. “Sandbars” a 30-minute film, showcases the pioneers and buildings of old Sanibel in the 1920’s. Filmmaker Rusty Farst takes viewers thru a few days in the lives of early pioneers. A special introduction by Sanibel Son and Island Pioneer Sam Bailey brings the film to life. "Having Mr. Bailey there on-site most days during filming was a special treat that I will remember and cherish. He loved to correct us set us straight and let us know how things really were. His stories were endless and always worth stopping and listening to. Sanibel history truly would come alive when Sam spoke about his days growing up, exploring, living, and working here." said Pfeifer.

Sand Bars to Sanibel premiered at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 18th, 2009 at the Sanibel Island Cinema and again at BIG ARTS.

Dick Muench inspired children with a love of the game and always a lesson in discipline, character, and manners. “Tuck in your shirt”…” I didn’t hear a please when you ordered that”, “Get off my fence”, “Get back in the dugout”, “ Turn that hat around”, “Get that dog off my field”, …..” Now PLAY BALL”. Muench embodies the Sanibel spirit of community and involvement. The island is a better place for all because of the efforts of one. Dick Muench we all thank you! Eric Pfeifer, you have some big shoes to fill!

3-1-2007: Pfeifer Helps Sanibel Sea School Octifest Fund Raiser: Newly formed, the Sanibel Sea School finds a way to tuck a great fundraiser into the already packed social calendar for Sanibel philanthropists. Mary Ellen Pfeifer enjoys being a part of the first planning year for the Sanibel Sea School as they create and bring to life Octifest. The Sanibel Sea School is a hands-on lesson on ocean ecology, and island marine studies in a field trip style setting. Director Dr. Bruce Neill enjoys sharing his love and knowledge of Marine Biology with all students young and old.

"As part of the fundraising committee, we had a great time finding the right theme and marketing the concept to build awareness of the Sanibel Sea School. I thought that involving a scavenger hunt built around Island history and nature would be a creative way to promote the event," said Pfeifer. For 8 weeks representing the 8 arms of an Octopus, a clue was published in the Island Sun that would lead to a physical clue in on the island. The first person to find the clue won a Luc Century etched vase with an octopus on it. It was a huge success with islanders of all ages waiting for the paper to go hunting for a clue hidden somewhere on the island or the surrounding waters. Yes, some clues were offshore underwater. Great fun, fabulous event, worthy cause. The Sanibel Sea School, where every day is a field trip.
