Cause for the Campus
LAST UPDATED: 24 January 2024

For those who attended SCCF’s 2022 inaugural Cause on the Causeway celebrated the launch of a new event built on the fun-filled tradition of Sanibel Sea School’s beloved Octifest fundraising event, expanding it to support all the water-related work of three united brands – SCCFSanibel Sea School, and Coastal Watch.

Pfeifer Realty Group is proud to be the presenting sponsor again this year. Please join us in support to raise funds needed to restore and enhance the Sea School’s beloved East End buildings and outdoor spaces. Because the Causeway is under construction and far from being a location for a fundraiser, and the needs of the Sea School are so great, it made is easy to pivot and rename the event: Cause for the Campus.

Set for Saturday evening, March 2 at the Bailey Homestead Preserve, the Cause for the Campus — or the Cause for short — will be a tented dinner and entertainment event. Guests will enjoy a cocktail hour in the Bailey Homestead Pavilion, a tented dinner on the great lawn, live entertainment, and the premiere of a short film capturing the Sea School’s embracing culture and educational impact. Tickets and Sponsorship information can be found HERE.

As a much-needed fundraising gala, the Cause will feature a lively cause-related auction of six desperately needed items:

  • A new roof on the front building
  • Wraparound decking on the Kennedy Building
  • An outdoor learning amphitheater for 50 campers
  • A fully refurbished and upgraded play yard area
  • A vastly improved storage facility, and
  • As always, scholarship funding

“While many of our events focus on community, marking milestones, and other fun activities, The Cause is a gala type event with typical SCCF vibes intended to be a significant fundraising lift for the organization and our current needs each year” said SCCF Events Manager Jeff Siwicke.

Eric and Mary Ellen Pfeifer have a long time history of Sea School support. Mary Ellen was on the first fundraising committee to plan the original "Octifest" suggesting an 8 week scavenger hunt building awareness leading up to the event. Eric was honored to Emcee the inaugural Cause on the Causeway along with the incredible talent of Rachael Pierce.

"Both our our kids attended the Sanibel Sea School. Our daughter Darby Pfeifer enjoyed being an SX3 Councilor in Training (CIT), and our son John exclaimed 'DAD, SCIENCE IS EVERYWHERE' when he returned from a week in the Keys with Doc Bruce." shared Pfeifer to a packed tent of supporters. We hope you are as passionate as we are about supporting experiential learning as we are.
