Every year the Cypress Lake Golf Club holds the Patty Berg Pro Am Golf Tournament to honor the legacy of one of the greatest golf ambassadors. Patricia "Patty" Berg was born in 1918 in Minneapolis where she won her first title as the 1939 Minneapolis City Championship. Patty won 29 amateur golf tournaments prior to turning pro in 1940. She served in the Marine Reserves from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. After the war, Berg joined the Women's Professional Golf Association (PGA) and in 1949 together with Babe Zaharias created the Ladies PGA. She was a charter inductee in the Women's Golf Hall of Fame (LPGA Hall of Fame) and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. Berg was the first president of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the LPGA went on the create the Patty Berg Award in 1978.
An active member of the Cypress Lake Golf Club in Fort Myers Florida, Patty enjoyed mixing and mingling and was often seen on the practice tee until she passed at the age of 88 in 2006.
Patty competed until 1980 when she played her last tournament. As a gift to the Golf world, Berg gifted her collection of mementos and trophies for permanent display at the Cypress Lake clubhouse for all to enjoy. This is the largest collection of Patty Bergs memorabilia in the United States.
Every year Cypress Lake Golf Club keeps her memory and legacy alive by hosting both The Patty Berg Pro-Am to benefit junior golf and the Nolan Henke/Patty Berg Junior Masters to inspire the growth of young golfers.
Eric Pfeifer along with his oldest brother Garrett Pfeifer are both members of Cypress Lake Golf Club. Pfeifer Realty Group is proud to be Hole-in-one sponsors for this legendary golf tournament to help support young golfers as they learn this incredible game.
