Sanibel Island Luminary is a holiday celebration event to remember. The first Friday of December ALWAYS marks the beginning of our Holiday Season as we ring in the Christmas spirit on Sanibel Island. Captiva Luminary is always the first Saturday of December. Each year on the first Friday night of December, the entire Island of Sanibel turns into a wonderland of lights. Residents, visitors, guests and businesses come together to celebrate this holiday event.
As the sun sets over the Gulf of Mexico, the bike paths next to Periwinkle Way will twinkle with the lights from hundreds of luminary lights. Holiday singing will fill the air along with many refreshments and even Santa visits. The live nativity scene and animal display at the Sanibel Community Church are a favorite stop for young and old alike. There is something for everyone.
Come out and enjoy the community spirit of or wonderful city. While you are appreciating this beautiful display of luminaries take a moment to thank a civic club member. The Lions Club prepares hundreds of Luminary Bags filled with sand and a candle, The Kiwanis Club members distribute and Llght the Luminaries and the Rotary Club picks them up Saturday Morning.
