LAST UPDATED: 06 October 2005

J.N. “Ding” Darling Days are just around the corner! With Sanibel land donated from the Federal Government and Sanibel lands acquired by friends of “Ding” and other concerned citizens the Refuge was formed. The 1962 formation of the J.N. “Ding” Darling Conservation Foundation has continued his vision of wildlife education & conservation. The non-profit Ding Darling Wildlife Society along with the J.N. “Ding” Darling Wildlife Refuge continue to provide educational material to promote preservation and conservation.

Ding Darling Days began as a one-day event in 1995 and has grown to a full 6 days to incorporate the large numbers of visitors. This week-long celebration of our island’s natural habitat has activities for all the family to enjoy. Beginning October 9th and lasting until October 15th visitors there are activities for all the family. Activities include manatee talks, butterfly house, sea turtle talks, kayak tours, birding in the Ding, mangrove walks, dolphin cruises, Florida panther education, shells, hands-on activities for all children, and much, more!
